Our team is sharing the three keys of kitchen remodeling. Read on for design tips and inspiration!
The Work Triangle
The work triangle refers to the primary traffic pattern in your kitchen. That’s the path you use to get from the three places you need to get to while cooking: the stove, fridge, and sink. No matter your kitchen’s layout or the features you want to add, you need to ensure that path is clear. You also want it to be as close to being an equilateral triangle (all sides have the same length) as possible. If your fridge is too far away or the kitchen island blocks your path between the stove and the sink, you should consider redesigning the layout if you can.
Organizational Features
Keeping the work triangle clear isn’t the only thing you can do to streamline your cooking process. Organizing your kitchen ensures that you always know where an appliance or utensil is when you need it. Including simple organizational features like a lazy susan in a cabinet or a pull-out spice rack can make storing and finding things in your kitchen much easier.
Plenty of Counter Space
If you ask anyone what they don’t like about their kitchen, they will probably mention a lack of counter space. While your kitchen’s size may limit you, there are some things you can do to free up space on your countertop. Unless you use a particular appliance every day, such as your coffeemaker or toaster oven, keep it in the cabinet rather than letting it clutter up your counter. Mounting your microwave above the countertop is also an effective way to get more space.
